Jovie History

Jovie is a Dutch company founded by infant nutrition experts and parents who wanted to create a more gentle formula for babies. Their knowledge comes from firsthand experience with difficulty breastfeeding and years of creating goat milk-based infant nutrition products. Jovie was even the first Dutch company to make goat milk-based infant formula!

Organic full-fat goat milk is Jovie's primary and most important ingredient. Because goat's milk naturally contains many beneficial nutrients, Jovie does not have to use undesirable additives to make a complete formula. The company prioritizes using carefully selected ingredients with minimal environmental impacts. Jovie's formulas are certified organic by the European Union and produced without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, GMOs, or hormones.

Ingredients in Jovie's Goat Milk Baby Formula

As mentioned previously, the main ingredient in Jovie's formula is whole organic goat milk sourced from organic farms. The goats that produce Jovie's milk receive regionally sourced organic feed and have access to open-air and grazing areas, as well as more space per animal when in the barn. Organic farming is beneficial for our environment as it enriches the soil, supports biodiversity and reduces water pollution and greenhouse gases.

In terms of benefits to your baby, goat milk has many short and medium-chain triglycerides that help infants better digest and absorb milk fats. Furthermore, its unique protein structure allows for faster digestion than cow's milk. Goat milk formula also contains milk proteins that form smaller, softer, and looser curds in the belly, making it easier for smaller stomachs to digest. Finally, the proteins in goat milk formula are A2, which is particularly beneficial for sensitive tummies.

With respect to micronutrients, Jovie goat organic formula contains all the vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids that your baby needs to thrive. A unique feature of Jovie is that they use more bioavailable forms of iron and zinc in their formula. Moreover, they add prebiotics in the form of GOS (galactooligosaccharides) to support gut health and digestion. Finally, whole goat's milk is also rich in essential fatty acids like DHA and AA, which are crucial for cognitive development and visual acuity during infancy and childhood!

Jovie Production

Jovie is transparent about their entire production process, which starts with ensuring animal welfare at their organic farms, where healthy and happy goats produce rich and creamy milk. The milk is tested for any unwanted residues, such as antibiotics or hormones before it is collected.

Collection of fresh milk takes place at least twice a week which is then transported by a special milk truck to the factory to be processed. Here, it is processed into formula powder and enriched with carefully selected ingredients designed to nourish babies.

Throughout the entire production process, Jovie prioritizes testing and analyzing their formula to ensure quality and safety. Before dispatching any Jovie Goat products, a rigorous final check is conducted.

Only after passing this detailed assessment can Jovie Goat be shipped to customers. Overall, Jovie emphasizes the importance of animal welfare, careful testing, and ingredient selection to produce a high-quality and safe formula for babies!

Jovie's Formula Stages: What's the difference?

In case you're still a newbie to European formula, it comes in different stages to reflect the natural changes in breast milk throughout nursing to best suit babies' changing nutritional needs. For Jovie's formula specifically, infant formula, or stage 1 formula, is for babies 0 - 6 months, follow-on formula, or stage 2 formula, is for babies 6+ months, and toddler formula, or stage 3 formula, is for little tots 12 months and up!

The nutrients in Jovie's formula are adjusted depending on the stage of the formula. We will discuss the differences between these stages more in depth below but first, we'd like to tell you about what things are similar between these formulas.

All three stages of Jovie baby formula have these ingredients in common:

  • Organic whole goat milk powder

  • Organic lactose

  • Organic vegetable oils

  • Organic prebiotics aka galactooligosaccharides (GOS)

  • DHA and AA

  • The following vitamins and minerals: L-choline bitartrate, L-cystine, L-tryptophan, L-tyrosine, inositol, and L-carnitine L-tartrate

However, there are some differences in regard to ingredients and age in which these formulas can be used which we'll discuss below.

Jovie Goat Infant Milk Stage 1

Jovie goat infant formula stage 1 is intended to be used from birth up to 6 months of age, either as a substitute or a complement to breastfeeding. Unlike the later stages of Jovie, organic goat milk formula, stage 1 contains sodium chloride and potassium iodide.

Jovie Goat Follow-On Formula Stage 2

Jovie stage 2 is a follow-on formula that is intended to be used from 6 months of age onwards. Unlike organic infant milk, this formula is designed to be used once your child has begun weaning. Both stages 1 and 2 contain retinol acetate which stage 3 does not. Because iron becomes especially important for infant nutrition around 6 months of age, stages 2 and 3 contain higher amounts of this mineral compared to stage 1.

Jovie Goat Toddler Formula Stage 3

Jovie stage 3 is a toddler formula intended for use from 12 months onwards as a complement to your toddler's family diet. Though not strictly necessary, it can be useful for filling nutritional gaps in your little one's diet. Stage 2 and stage 3 have the same ingredients, except that stage 3 has fewer minerals and no retinol acetate. Finally, unlike stage 1, stages 2 and 3 contain sodium citrate.

Why choose Jovie organic baby formula?

As a parent, you can feel confident in choosing Jovie goat milk formula for your baby. Jovie goat milk formula is a good option for babies because it is made from whole goat milk, which is easily digestible and provides a variety of health benefits. The milk is sourced from organic farming, and the formula is produced sustainably and processed minimally to preserve as much of the healthy milk fats as possible.

Jovie's formula is also free of palm oil and maltodextrin, making it a natural and wholesome choice. The company is transparent about its production process, prioritizes animal welfare, and the formula is enriched with carefully selected ingredients designed to nourish babies!

Importantly, while goat's milk formula can be a beneficial alternative to cow's milk formula for some babies it is not a suitable choice for those with a cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA) or lactose intolerance. Since the proteins in both kinds of milk are similar, there is a possibility of a cross-over reaction. Goat milk, like cow's milk formulas, can produce an allergic reaction in infants with CMPA.

FAQ

Got some questions still? Many parents wonder about the following points but you'll have your questions answered in no time. Keep reading to learn more about Jovie's organic goat milk!

Where does Jovie come from?

Jovie is based in the Netherlands.

Why is goat milk better than cow milk?

Goat and cow's milk formulas are two popular options for feeding babies. Both are considered to be excellent sources of quality nutrition, but there are a few key differences between the two that parents should consider when choosing a formula that is best for their baby. Most notably goat's milk is known to be easier for babies to digest. However, goat's milk is not suitable for babies with a cow's milk protein allergy or lactose intolerance.

Can Jovie infant milk be used from birth?

If breastfeeding is not an option or preference, Jovie infant formula provides complete nutrition for your baby from birth. Please note that breastfeeding is still the ideal source of infant nutrition for your child.

Is it safe to use Jovie goat milk products if my child has lactose intolerance?

For children with a diagnosed lactose intolerance, Jovie's formula is not suitable. Jovie's formula uses lactose to mimic the carbohydrate source found in breast milk. If your child is sensitive to lactose, we encourage you to speak with your healthcare provider about your child's symptoms.

Is it safe to give my child Jovie goat milk formula if they have a cow milk protein allergy?

For children with a confirmed or suspected cow's milk protein allergy, Jovie goat milk products are not suitable. Since the proteins in both kinds of milk are similar, there is a possibility of a cross-over reaction. Goat milk formulas like cow's milk formulas can produce an allergic reaction in infants with CMPA.

Fortunately, CMPA is relatively rare with only 3% of infants having a confirmed cow milk protein allergy. More often babies are just sensitive to cow's milk. It's best to speak to your pediatrician to discuss your child's symptoms and feeding options.

Does Jovie have any potential allergens in their formula?

All Jovie products include goat milk and lactose which are both potential allergens.
