HiPP aims to create organic baby formulas that are as close to breast milk as possible. Their organic milk is based on the latest infant nutrition science to provide your little one with the essential nutrients needed to thrive. All HiPP baby formulas contain important macronutrients (carbs, fats, and proteins) and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids).
Plus, many of their formulas contain prebiotics and probiotics to promote better gut and digestive health! Furthermore, all HiPP formulas, except for their specialty formulas, are certified organic by the European Union and hold the HiPP organic seal.
Keep reading to learn more about the values and history of the HiPP brand, and what makes HiPP formulas so popular. Plus, take a closer look at the ingredients used in their products, the different types of HiPP formulas that we offer, and convenient answers to some commonly asked questions about their formula!
HiPP is a family-run company and pioneer in the field of infant nutrition. They have many decades of experience as a leading producer of organic baby food and formula. HiPP's history dates back all the way to 1932 when Georg Hipp founded the company to help provide better nutrition for babies who didn't receive enough breast milk, by selling his father's famous rusk-based baby cereal.
The company grew in popularity largely due to its innovative baby food and formula products. A major milestone occurred in 1956 when Hipp converted his family farm into an organic farm, upon realizing the value that agriculture free of chemical fertilizers and pesticides has for the health of both babies and our environment. Since then, organic nutrition and environmental sustainability have remained at the core of HiPP's work.
For almost 60 years now, HiPP has stood for a conscious approach to the balance of nature and nutrition and is even the world's largest processor of organic raw materials. HiPP states that "the best for nature.", is the benchmark against which they measure themselves. Thanks to their efforts, the company has been rewarded with numerous awards in the fields of infant nutrition, corporate social responsibility, ecology, and environmental management!
HiPP formula is crafted with essential nutrients to support your baby's development. In their milk formula, you'll find a combination of organic powdered milk, organic vegetable oils, and beneficial essential fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. But that's not all...
One feature about HiPP's products that stands them apart from other organic formulas is that many of their formulas use natural lactic acid cultures (aka probiotics) originally extracted from real breast milk. Not only do the probiotics reflect the natural components of breast milk, but these natural lactic acid cultures also help maintain healthy gut flora and immunity!
It's these premium organic ingredients and innovative recipes that have earned HiPP the title of Germany's #1 organic formula brand!
HiPP baby formulas contain a combination of organic sunflower oil, sustainably sourced organic palm oil, and organic rapeseed oil to help replicate the fatty acid profile of human milk.
To provide your little one with the energy needed to grow and flourish, these formulas contain vital carbohydrates. In each of their formulas, you'll find organic lactose, and depending on the version and stage of the formula, there may be complementary carbohydrates added such as organic starch or maltodextrin.
Other important nutrients like fish oil (a valuable source of DHA), folic acid, vitamin C, calcium chloride or calcium carbonate, zinc, and prebiotics are also present. HiPP offers formulas in a variety of country versions (HiPP Dutch, German, and UK) to satisfy different national infant nutrition requirements and ingredient preferences. Parents can choose from HiPP organic cow formula or HiPP goat formula. They even offer a range of specialty formulas (HiPP Anti-Reflux, Comfort, and Hypoallergenic/HA) for babies with special dietary needs.
HiPP formulas come in different stages to provide your baby with the best nutrition for their age, beginning from when your baby is still a newborn, all the way into toddlerhood. These formula stages are intended to mirror the changing composition of breast milk over the course of nursing.
Here's a quick rundown of the stages of European baby formula: Infant formula is for babies 0 - 6 months, follow-on formula is for babies 6+ months to 10+ or 12+ months depending on the brand, and toddler formula is for little tots 12 months and up.
We'll discuss these stages more in-depth below!
HiPP infant formula is available in two stages, PRE and 1. Both stages are suitable starting from birth with only minor variations in ingredients.
Infant Formula Stage PRE is intended as the sole source of nutrition or to supplement a breastfed baby. This stage features lactose, as the main carbohydrate source, just like breast milk.
Infant Formula Stage 1is also intended as the sole source of nutrition or for supplementing breast milk. In addition to lactose, stage 1 contains organic mild starch as a complementary carbohydrate. Starch is added to make the milk formula creamier and more filling. Therefore, this stage is potentially better suited to hungrier babies.
HiPP offers follow-on formulas in stages 2 or 3 (depending on the country version) which are intended to be used begging at 6 months as part of a mixed diet for babies who are already receiving complimentary food.
HiPP German formula stages 2 and 3 are follow-on formulas, while for HiPP UK and HiPP Dutch, only stage 2 is follow-on milk. Follow-on formulas are enriched with more iron than infant formulas as this mineral becomes particularly important for babies beginning around 6 months.
HiPP's toddler formula is designed for children aged 12-36 months. It is different from infant and follow-on formulas, as it is intended to help facilitate a transition to a family diet. Because of this, it is not suitable for babies under the age of 12 months of age. While toddler formula is not strictly necessary, it can help meet nutritional gaps in your toddler's diet.
Toddler formula contains similar beneficial properties to whole cow's milk, such as being naturally high in calcium. Additionally, it is fortified with essential fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals to promote healthy development and growth in children.
Got some questions still? Many parents wonder about the following points but you'll have your questions answered in no time. Keep reading to learn more!
HiPP formula is designed to mimic the natural qualities of breast milk. Milk is sourced from organic farming and fortified with important vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids to help support your baby's growth and development. Additionally, some formulas contain pre and/or probiotics to encourage healthy intestinal flora and better digestion in your infant.
